Product Concept
Based on the playing experience of Ray Aoto (aotoraymusic), a developer and active drummer, we prioritize ease of use and durability through a thorough "field-oriented" approach.
We are dedicated to creating products that expand players' expressive capabilities, free from conventional notions.
Scene-Driven
Instead of the traditional approach of pursuing "materials," we plan and develop products with the goal of realizing the "sampling sounds and grooves" demanded in today's electronic music scene.
Easy Setup
To ensure stress-free use even in situations with short rehearsal or changeover times, we've adopted an intuitive and smart attachment/detachment mechanism that allows anyone to set up instantly without needing precise fine-tuning.
Background to the Brand Launch
My Origins as a Drummer
Since I started playing drums in high school, I've performed in various genres including J-Pop, punk rock, jazz, and funk.
My turning point was when I became deeply immersed in jazz.
As I expressed the delicate cymbal tones and the ambiance of the snare, I realized that pursuing the "sound texture" (sound image) was essential to drive the band.
In recent years, I've channeled this inquisitive spirit into sound design for electronic music, including techno, drum and bass, and hip-hop.
Can electronic sounds be reproduced with drums?
While participating as a drummer in techno and hip-hop bands, I was faced with the challenge of "how to reproduce electronic sounds with an acoustic drum kit."
Most conventional mutes focused on overtone control, and there were no decisive products on the market that could transform a snare drum's sound into an electronic one.
On the other hand, pioneers like Jojo Mayer, Mark Guiliana, and Louis Cole were also exploring ways to create sounds that reproduced electronic sounds with acoustic drums through their own DIY innovations, which further motivated us to develop this product.
A device that lets you carry your ideal sound
Entering the 2020s, I've increasingly felt that the drummer's role has shifted from "keeping time" to "providing the appropriate sound texture for the song."
Just as guitarists carry their ideal sound with them in their effects boards, I wanted to create a "device that drummers can carry their intended sound to any venue."
—This is the origin of BREAKBEAT LAB.
To be able to instantly reproduce the sound and texture of electronic sounds on an acoustic drum kit, simply by placing it, regardless of the performance environment.
If our products, packed with a thorough commitment to practical application and an unquenchable passion for electronic music, can be of use in your daily performances, creative work, and in achieving your ideal sound,
as creators, there would be no greater joy.
